Until I returned home to Edinburgh in 2003 after many years away, I had never tried to paint or draw the bridges. ![]() Growing up in Edinburgh this was a favourite drive for an ice cream to take in the steam trains crossing the rail bridge, or crossing the road bridge for family holidays to the West and North of Scotland. It’s a great area to climb and walk and get a great insight in the geography of the city and its surrounding topographical references, proximity to the sea and mountains. There will be over 50 original oils, Indian inks and exclusive framed Giclee limited edition prints on display. I am very much inspired by the more atmospheric painters such as Whistler, Monet and Turner. This artwork is all about after a storm cloud has passed and there is a magical stream of light that cascades over the city. As well as painting vivid expressionistic sunsets from Calton Hill, I also love the more ethereal atmospheric skies and. This painting was painted specifically for my special 10th Anniversary exhibition ‘Reflections on a City’ at the prestigious Dovecot Studios in 2013 which featured over 120 large scale landscapes. I’m fascinated by the ever-changing light over my inspirational home city of Edinburgh. ![]()
